Oakmont Senior Living Deploys Rendever’s Virtual Reality Platform to Help Reduce Depression and Isolation Among Residents

Seniors can now use VR to visit bucket list destinations, share experiences from their past, stay connected with family members, and more

BOSTON – Oct. 20, 2020 – Oakmont Senior Living, a recognized leader in retirement living, has rolled out Rendever, the leading provider of virtual reality (VR) for seniors, at its Oakmont of East Sacramento community.

Rendever’s platform enables residents to overcome social isolation through the power of VR and shared experiences. From checking off bucket list items to engaging with the world, the platform allows residents to virtually travel beyond the four walls of their community. Through VR, residents can revisit significant places from their past, tour famous landmarks, and stay connected with family members among other immersive activities.

To maintain social connection, seniors can share synchronous VR experiences together. Rendever gives them a chance to share in the laughter, joy, and adventures they’re seeing through their headsets, and opens the door for deep connections and common ground among residents. Family members can also upload personal photos, videos, and 360° footage of events to share with their loved ones, which creates a feeling of unity no matter the distance.

“Social isolation can cause a whole host of physical and mental health consequences, so we believe that it is absolutely critical to offer residents a wide variety of engaging activities,” said Rina Younan, Vice President of Program Development at Oakmont Management Group. “Rendever is the perfect platform because it opens up a world of possibilities. They can travel to places they never thought possible, stay up to date with family events, and share experiences like camel riding or sky diving together. It is so special to see them having fun and bonding with each other.”

Oakmont Senior Living is the newest group to join Rendever’s growing community of over 200 senior living communities across North America.

“Research has found prolonged loneliness to be equally as dangerous as smoking 15 cigarettes per day,” said Kyle Rand, Cofounder and CEO of Rendever. “We can help mitigate this risk by broadening perspectives – there is nothing quite like seeing the joy and wonder seniors experience as they explore the world through virtual reality. We are so thankful for our part in helping Oakmont Senior Living residents feel more connected than ever by reminiscing, sharing experiences, and building meaningful relationships with one another.”
